If you’ve reached this page, you’re probably familiar with the GEM2000 gas analyzer…but let’s talk about it a bit anyway.
The GEM2000 was a success when Landtec launched it over a decade ago and it’s been a workhorse in the field for hundreds of customers. Over the years, Landtec received so many requests for expanded capabilities and enhancements that in 2013 the GEM5000 was introduced as the replacement for the GEM2000. But the GEM2000 was one tough piece of equipment and very popular. We recognized this. So, we have continued to support the GEM2000 through repair and calibration ever since.
Unfortunately, as with most technologies, they age faster than we would like and parts become obsolete, (just ask your 8-Track or Laser Disc players). We reached that point in the lifecycle of the GEM2000 Revision 1, (serial numbers 10,000 and greater). Like the Revision 0 analyzers, repair parts for the GEM2000 Rev1 units are obsolete.
Fortunately, we still have Rev1 parts in stock and will continue to repair the Rev1 units as long as possible. But, since the parts are obsolete, we will no longer be able to repair the GEM2000 once our inventory has been used up.
We will still calibrate GEM2000 units. But one of the effects of aging is the potential for “drift” of the calibrated parameters. Based on our investigations, we feel that the GEM2000 units may not hold their calibration parameters as well as they had in the past. This increases the potential for faulty readings. Even factory calibrated units are at risk for premature “drift” due to the age of the components.
All of that is a long way of saying that if you are currently using a GEM2000, it may be time to consider an upgrade.
Change isn’t always easy, even when you know that it will put you in a better position. We get it and we like things to be easy.
